Teo Teck Soon

Born in 1941, Teo Teck Soon is a Singapore based artist specialising in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting. He enjoys exploring poetry and literature. His recently published work, 蜜叶 : 现代米诗·歇后语书画 reveals the author’s emotionally attuned journey with his art practice. He is adept at using simple language to describe the philosophy of life, ecological nature, art, environmental protection, and humanistic feelings. Life, as he sees it, is like a long novel, a path of practice.

Teo’s artistic style spans from flowers and birds to landscapes, architecture, environmental themes, and imagination, each step being a unique journey. He has attempted to study the technique of 半彩半墨 (half-colour, half-ink). His architectural and landscape paintings often symbolises harmony between people and nations. Teo began showcasing his works as early as 1975, Teo Teck Soon’s works were selected for the annual National Day Art Exhibition organised by the Ministry of Culture, and he participated in successive 中正湖畔美展 (Zhong Zhen Lakeside Arts Exhibition), the Singapore Art Society’s joint exhibitions, and key exhibitions by the Nanyang Calligraphy Centre.
